a small piece of sandpaper (if you want to change the shape of the polystyrene bud)
florist wire #20 (the length depends on how you want to attach the balloon)
pliers (to cut the wire)
scissors (ideally small, curved ones)

cake dummy (whichever size you have)
red 50/50 FP/SP mix* - 18 g
piping gel
edible glue
dust colours:
red (or other colour of your choice)
white
paste (gel) colour:
black (or other colour of your choice)

FP = flower paste (gum paste).
SP = sugarpaste (fondant).
50/50 FP/SP mix = FP and SP mixed in a 1:1 ratio. To make a 50/50 FP/SP mix, mix similar size pieces of FP and SP.

Put the balloon on a wire in the dummy. Look at it from the front and check if you are happy with the shape. You can make small adjustments by moving some paste up, down or to the sides (press gently and smooth). If the seams are still a little visible, make that side the back of the balloon.
Leave it to dry for some time. It needs to be firm before you dust it.
