a small piece of sandpaper (if you want to change the shape of the polystyrene bud)
florist wire #20 (the length depends on how you want to attach the balloon)

red 50/50 FP/SP mix* - 18 g
piping gel

dust colours:
red (or other colour of your choice)

paste (gel) colour:
black (or other colour of your choice)

FP = flower paste (gum paste).
SP = sugarpaste (fondant).
50/50 FP/SP mix = FP and SP mixed in a 1:1 ratio. To make a 50/50 FP/SP mix, mix similar size pieces of FP and SP.

Cut off the excess paste. I suggest that you use small curved scissors. If you don’t have them, use straight ones or a scalpel.
It’s better to cut off less and check if you need to cut off more, than cut off too much and end up with a gap. If you end up with a gap and try to stretch the paste, you won’t get a smooth finish.
