This dinosaur topper was inspired by an illustration sent over to me by one of my lovely customers :) Thank you Sara for letting me share this design with other cake decorators! :)
small rolling pin
mini palette knife tool
small ball tool
piping nozzle - 3 mm
teardrop cutter - 8 mm (or a similar size round cutter)
round cutter - 3 mm
50/50 FP/SP mix* with CMC**:
blue - 340 g(colours: sky blue + violet)
50/50 FP/SP mix:
cream - 12 g
dark blue - 2 g
white - 3 g (amount depends on the depth of the indentation)
red purple - 4 g (rose + violet + dark brown)
ball grey - 5 mm
light blue - 10 mm ball
violet - 5 g
bright green - 8 mm ball (lemon yellow + a touch of sky blue)
* FP = flower paste = gum paste; SP = sugarpaste = fondant; to make the 50/50 mix, mix similar size pieces of both types of paste f.ex. 20 g of FP and 20 g of SP.
**Keep on adding the CMC until the paste gets thick but you can still roll a smooth ball. Add more to the body and head than to the legs or arms.
12.5 cm (without the hat)
16 cm (with the hat)
Roll a 118 g ball of blue paste. Make sure you add enough CMC (you don't want the head to lose the shape; you will need to leave it on a foam pad to dry). Form an egg shape and then create a shape like the one in the photo (take a look at the next two photos too). Use a small ball tool to make indentations for the eyes. Stick two balls where the nostrils will go.
